M50 – IRELAND


This project had a construction budget of €1.3 billion between the years of 2003 – 2011 for Phase I and II. McDonald Surveys provided 12 experienced survey crews with renowned industry expertise and quality.

Phase 1 of the M50 improvements scheme saw the 5km section from the N7 to the N4 go from four to six lanes with new free-flowing interchanges at the Red Cow, LiffeyValley and Ballymount roundabouts.The client was SIAC-Ferrovial M50 Joint Venture and the scheme opened in December 2008.

Phase 2 comprised the design and construction upgrade of approximately 26km of the existing two lane carriage-way to three standard lanes, the provision of auxiliary lanes between the M1 and N3 junctions and between the N7 and Scholarstown junctions, the major upgrade of the junctions at the M1, N2 and N3 from grade separated junction types to partially free flow interchanges; and upgrade works to the junctions at Ballymun, Ballymount, the N81, Scholarstown and Sandyford.The client was a Saycr-PJ Hegarty JointVenture.This project opened in 2011.
